Tucked inside the historic 1920’s Bonita Hotel of Shangri-La Springs is a new dining spot. It’s called Harvest & Wisdom for a reason. The seasonal secrets come from the property’s own organic garden. Every dish is carefully prepared to not only excite your eyes but also be good for you.

Creations are by Michelin-starred Executive Chef Allen Fisher. Fisher was featured as a competitor on Food Network’s Chopped March 2019. Fisher works side-by-side with David Robbins, Chef De Cuisine who is an expert in botanicals. Both chefs dedicated to the farm-to-table concept.

On the menu, under starters, there is Crispy Sweet Potato, Duck Rillette, and a Cheese & Charcuterie Board. I had the Summer Squash & Zucchini with herbed ricotta, lemon oil, sunflower seeds, mint, and basil. The dish was beautiful and pleasant to the palette.

Under a Bit More there are a handful of heavier dishes like an Ahi Sticky Rice Bowl; a Cassoulet with white beans, smoked pork belly, and garden greens and a Circle C Farm Chicken Hoppin John.

Jeff chose the special – The French Onion Burger with a side of crispy smashed potatoes. The burger was topped with onions steeped in red wine and beef broth and melted Muenster cheese.

There are frequent menu changes to keep things fresh and up-to-date. The chefs are particularly mindful of special requests for food allergies, gluten-free and other restrictive diets.

For $38 schedule a docent-led tour and organic lunch.  Tours are by reservation only between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The hotel and property are being renovated with new rooms and plans to expand the kitchen to host larger on-site private events.

Shangri-La Springs, 27750 Old 41 Road, restaurant hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
